Narvick Way, North Tyneside

Excavation from construction area, with material re-used on site.

BACKGROUND
Japanese Knotweed growth on a trading estate in the North East was identified in early 2008 during a full site survey. The site was to be used for a large commercial development in the future so a management plan for dealing with the Japanese Knotweed was drawn up.

TREATMENT PLAN
Works comprised of an initial spray treatment followed by the excavation of contaminated material. An area in the corner of the site was set aside for a waste management area and the excavated material was re-located here. Agitating techniques were used to ensure the maximum effect from a spray treatment and the waste management area was then shaped into a landscaping bund which will be planted up and will also act as a noise barrier as it runs alongside the busy A19.

SUMMARY
The site will be monitored and sprayed as required for a period of five years.
