Chairman's Update - When did that happen?

People often say to me… ‘Why has Japanese knotweed suddenly become such big news?’… ‘it’s been around since 1840, why is it only just beginning to register as an issue?’…

Well – there is actually a technical reason for this…. invasive non-native species go through a series of… ‘phases’… as they settle into a new environment.

How Many Treatments?

We have yet again been amazed by a telephone call received this week in our office, when I thought we had heard it all, we could not believe our ears overhearing one of our Surveyors explaining some facts about Japanese Knotweed and that it couldn’t be treated in just one treatment and that lifetime guarantees are not worth the paper they are written on!

In recent weeks the INNSA Steering Group members have met with a number of different stakeholders, ranging from the Building Societies Association and individual mortgage lenders, to trade bodies such as the HBF and NHBC. In every case there has been a warm reception for the INNS Code and the rigorous approach that INNSA has taken to setting demanding standards for the invasives industry.

Chairman's Update January 2016

One of the main reasons for setting up the Invasive Non Native Specialists Association was the number of dubious companies making statements that they just couldn't back up. The INNSA Conference - 15th March 2016

The second annual INNSA Conference will be held at the Riverside Centre in Derby on 15th March 2016 and promises to build on the very successful pioneering conference held in Manchester in 2015. There will be speakers from a broad spectrum covering both the invasive species industry as well as property industry professionals,to give a wide range of perspectives for the delegates who themselves are coming from many different industries and professions.

News from PCCB

As the regulator for the INNSA Code the Property Codes Compliance Board (PCCB) has travelled a steep learning curve about the invasives industry. Having said that, when it comes to protecting consumers and businesses through codes of practice the principles hold good across all industries, and the PCCB has great experience in regulating Codes of Practice.

Alan Thorogood, CEO of STL Group Ltd and a director of the PCCB, discusses the benefits the Invasives Code can bring to the invasive species industry

My advice to the Invasive species industry is to embrace the Invasives Code as something which will help raise awareness of and enhance their businesses. It's not just a box-ticking exercise.
